Minor League Football Interest Update: Gladiators Continue To Win, Eye Playoffs

The North Georgia Gladiators defeated the Chattanooga Outlawz 42-7. With the win the Gladiators are assured of a Top 4 finish in the NDFL playoffs and will home field advantage in the playoffs through at least the semifinals.

The South Carolina Commanders defeated the Georgia Bandits 12-7 and the Georgia Titans defeated the West Georgia Jaguars 77-0 and the Glynn County Revolution defeated the South Georgia Hawks 6-0.

Total Sports Coverage is nearing a deal to cover the North Georgia Gladiators throughout the playoffs so to stay tuned for updated information.

North Georgia Gladiators Defeat Georgia Panthers In Regular Season Showdown

The North Georgia Gladiators and Georgia Panthers entered their highly anticipated meeting with playoff seeding on the line in the NDFL. The Gladiators entered the game at 6-1 and the Panthers entered at 7-1.

It was all North Georgia Gladiators early thanks to quarterback Joey Vicary. Vicary scored on touchdown runs of 60 and 2 yards on the Gladiators first two possessions to give them a 14-0 lead after one period of play. The Gladiators would add another score on a T.J. Hamilton 2-yard touchdown run opening their lead out to 21-0.

The Panthers would finally get something going when Shane McCleskly hit Trey Wolfe on a 15-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-7. They would keep the momentum going with a defensive stand forcing a punt and  Tamir Chester returned a botched punt 35 yards to the house and the Panthers trailed 21-14. North Georgia would add another touchdown when Joey Vicary hit Mo Issak from 40 yards out and the Gladiators took a 28-14 lead into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter the Gladiators  would continue to pile it on in the fourth quarter adding a pair of field goals and another touchdown opening up a 41-14 lead. The Panthers added another touchdown late for window dressing making the final margin 41-20. The Gladiators extend their winning streak to five in a row and improve to 8-1 on the season and are slated to travel to the Chattanooga Outlaws next week. Chattanooga is 4-4 on the year and were off this week according to the league website.

The Cardinals finished the 2011 season undefeated at 13-0 and ranked No.1 in the final 2011 GDFL rankings and are ranked No.1 in the GDFL 2012 Preseason Top 25. The Chambersburg Cardinal franchise has been around since 1946, has won 13 League Championships and are currently on 25 game winning streak. The Cardinals will play their home games at Trojan Stadium in Chambersburg, PA.

Video: GDFL Action Pacifica Islanders vs Tuolumne County Outlaws

The Pacifica Islanders are off to a 3-0 start after winning this past weekend. Earlier this season they traveled to the Tuolumne County Outlaws and came away with a 45-0 victory on March 30th 2012.  Quarterback Myles Gates and Punt Returner Paki Gordon stole the show with some dazzling plays.

The Islanders defeated the Nevada Dream this past weekend 45-14 and are off this weekend.

GDFL West Action From The Weekend

Leading 20-14 at halftime the Pacifica Islanders opened the third quarter with Myles Gates  throwing two touchdown passes as the Islanders raced out to a 35-14 lead and never looked back in winning 45-14 over the Nevada Dream. Myles Gates threw four touchdowns and added a 2-point conversion run on the evening. The Islanders (3-0) remain unbeaten on the 2012 GDFL season and this victory was their second win on the young season over the Dream.

In other action over the weekend from the GDFL…The Tuolumne County Outlaws defeated the Central Valley Cowboys 32-26 in overtime.

Georgia Panthers Stay Undefeated In 2012

The Georgia Panthers seized control early against the West Georgia Jaguars when Shane McClesky hit Roger Wilson on a 48-yard touchdown pass  for a 7-0 lead. The Panthers added a 30-yard field goal from Matt Brownlow making it 10-0 Panthers. Enter “The Trey Wolfe Show” as Wolfe returned a pick six 30 yards and caught a 29-yard TD pass to give the Panthers a 24-0 halftime lead.

Trey Wolfe, who played his high school ball at Wheeler (GA) and college ball at Midwestern State University (TX), would continue to shine for the Panthers scoring on an 11-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter giving the Panthers a 31-0 lead. Shane McClesky threw 3 touchdowns for the Panthers and their defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns to win 37-0 on the road over the West Georgia Jaguars. The Panthers improve to 6-0 on the season and are averaging 36.0 ppg while only giving up 4.0 ppg.

The Gladiators, then known as Gainesville Gladiators, won the 2010 DSFL Championship  over the defending champion Chattanooga Steam.

The Gladiators have won two in a row with a combined score of 102-0 to break out of a two game losing skid. Here is the full season recap through this past weekend (March 31st).

Sitting at 3-2 with a shot at the playoffs for a franchise with playoff and championship experience, the Glads are on the radar. The roster is still loaded with talent, talent that won that 2010 championship and pulled off a 2011 regular season game victory over the Augusta/Georgia Pirates via a 4th quarter rally.

Georgia Jets release 2012 GDFL Schedule

The Georgia Jets have spent much of the off-season continuing to build on their organization that has seen continued success since it began operations in 2009 as the Gwinnett Jets. Entering its fourth season, second in the GDFL, they recently have released their 2012 season schedule.

Georgia Jets Have High Goals For 2012

The Georgia Jets have made the playoffs in each of their previous three seasons. They finished as the 2009 runner-up in the Southern Football League losing 24-7 to the Forest Park Vikings in the championship game, won the 2010 Southern Football Championship over the Atlanta Chiefs and lost in the first round of the GDFL Playoffs in 2011 to the South Georgia Noles (now the South Georgia Sting).

The Jets are 29-7 all-time in entering their fourth season.

Gaffney (SC) Releases 2012 Football Schedule

    • The Gaffney Indians have released their 2012 football schedule, here it is listed below.

      Sept. 7- vs. York
      Sept. 14- Open
      Sept. 21- vs. Dorman
      Sept. 28- at Wade Hampton
      Oct. 5- vs. Mauldin
      Oct. 12- vs. Byrnes
      Oct. 19- at Riverside
      Oct. 26- at Boiling Springs
      Nov. 2- vs. Spartanburg

      The Indians were the 2011 State runner up.  Gaffney and Brynes split their two meetings in 2011 with Gaffney winning during the regular season and Brynes winning in the state championship game. The Indians will have to replace standout quarterback Joey Copeland who will be attending South Carolina State in the fall and wide receiver Quinshad Davis who will play at North Carolina this fall.

      Gaffney will have to replace Quinshad Davis (14) and Joey Copeland (11) who led them to the South Carolina State Title game in 2011.

      Despite the Indians not having any out-of-state games on their schedule, there are four games that standout. The Indians’ season opener is against nationally respected Northeastern, a showdown with Dorman, a rematch with Byrnes and the rival showdown against an improving Spartanburg program are scheduled. All of these games will be played at home, on “The Reservation”.
