Georgia HSFB Update Sept. 16th

Oconee County (4-0) won its fourth straight game with a 28-10 victory over previously undefeated Cedar Shoals (3-1). Sam Middlebrooks hit Roques Dowty on a 52-yard touchdown pass on the Warriors opening possession for a 7-0 lead which held to halftime. Trent Harris got Cedar Shoals on the board in the third quarter with a field goal to pull the Jaguars to within 7-3. In the fourth quarter Oconee County put the game away with touchdown runs from Champ Hall, Jared Hood and Christian Casey. Jaivanni McDavid returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown for the Jaguars only touchdown of the game. Cedar Shoals’ three-game win streak, it’s longest since 2007, was snapped with the loss.

Camden County (1-3) won its first game of the season getting a 7-6 decision over Brunswick (2-2). Mickey Packard scored for Camden County while Brunswick quarterback Jamarius Stevens scored for the Pirates. Stevens missed the PAT to leave the score 7-6 which held for the final margin.  Former Camden County Wildcat running back Brandon McMaster- now at Brunswick, finished with over 100 all-purpose yards for the Pirates against his former mates. Brunswick’s two losses have came by a combined two points-both off missed extra points.

Greater Atlanta Christian broke open a 9-7 halftime game in the third quarter with two touchdown passes from quarterback Davis Mills to Harrison Sloan and Trey Morrison. Mills finished with three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown as GAC (3-1) defeated St. Pius (0-4) 37-7.

Lovejoy QB John Seter (17) attempts a pass against Stockbridge

Lovejoy (2-3) improved to 2-0 in region play with a 28-27 victory over Stephenson (1-3). Lovejoy quarterback John Seter- a transfer from The Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut, was 15-of-24 for 301 yards, three touchdowns with one interception passing. Through five games (four games played) Seter has passed for 933 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.

Grayson (2-1) defeated Deerfield Beach (FL) (1-2) 39-14. DeAngelo Gibbs caught two touchdown passes and Jamyest Williams returned an interception for a touchdown in the Rams second straight victory. Grayson is now 1-1 in interstate games this season with interstate games against Ramsay (AL) and Hoover (AL) remaining this season.

Quarterback Patrick Ferris passed for three touchdowns and Tyray Devezin rushed for another as Etowah (4-1) defeated Milton (2-2) 28-10. Blake Jones continued his stellar play with two touchdown receptions. Jones had interceptions in the previous two games against Spartanburg (SC) and East Coweta late in the fourth quarter to seal Etowah victories. Jackson Sisk also caught a touchdown pass for Etowah.

 

Other Games Of Interest: 

Mays (3-1) routed New Manchester (0-4) 51-0 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Raiders have won three consecutive games and the lone loss to Stockbridge, was by one point.

Colquitt County (1-4) won its first game of the season 52-14 over Brookwood (2-2). Colquitt chalked up its first-ever victory over Brookwood in the fourth all-time meeting in the series. Brookwood has lost two straight since opening the season with wins over North Gwinnett and Walton but have a favorable schedule upcoming in the next few weeks as region play opens. The Packers hit the road to face undefeated Valdosta (5-0) next.

Dwayne Davis picked his first victory as head coach of Mundy’s Mill (1-3) with a 33-13 victory over M.L. King (2-2).

Norcross defeated Archer 34-16 behind three touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown from quarterback Baron Radcliff. Tyler Ranel returned a kickoff 99 yard for a touchdown for Archer .

Lowndes (4-1) defeated Newton 42-34 for its fourth straight win. The Vikings have scored 35 or more points in all four victories this season after being held to only 13 points in the season opener against Valdosta (5-0)

Clarke Central (2-2) snapped its two-game losing streak with a 45-21 victory over North Oconee (0-4).  Jonathan Swelled rushed for over 175 yards and two touchdowns for the Gladiators. Clarke Central is at rival Cedar Shoals this Friday in the region opener for both.

Tucker (3-1) won its region opener  58-0 region over Jonesboro. Jonesboro (0-5) has only scored nine points through its first five games and have been outscored 149-0 the last three weeks against Spalding (3-1), McEachern (3-1) and Tucker. Jonesboro went 11-2 last season and have several transfers this season.

Northgate (4-0) defeated Creekside (3-1) in a 61-48 region game shootout. Both teams figure to fight with Mays (3-1), Douglas County (3-1), Alexander (3-0) and Langston Hughes (3-1) for playoff spots in the underrated yet extremely tough region 5-6A.

McEachern (3-1) scored a season-low six points in a 6-2 victory at Westlake (1-3). McEachern has not scored an offensive touchdown in two of its last three games against Grayson (scored touchdowns on punt and interception returns), Jonesboro (won 69-0) and Westlake (scored on two field goals). Westlake under first-year head coach Kareem Reid- who previously was a head coach in Florida, face Lithonia (1-3; defeated Meadowcreek for its first win this season last week) this Friday before opening region play against East Coweta (3-1) in two weeks. East Coweta’s lone loss came to North Cobb (3-1) who handed Etowah (3-1) its only loss this season so far 24-20.
