The McEachern Lady Indians (6-7) post a 3-2 record for a in fourth place at the 2015 Sandra Meadows Classic in Duncanville, TX this week.
McEachern defeated Richardson (TX) in the opener as Jada Lewis scored 11 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter. McEachern outscored Richardson 23-8 in the fourth quarter enroute to the 67-49 victory. Chanel Wilson scored 12, Que Morrison finished with 10 and Lyndsey Whilby chipped in 8 points in the victory.
Day 2 of the event featured the doubleheader portion of the event. The Lady Indians remained in the winners bracket with a 80-33 rout of Briarcrest Christian (TN). McEachern broke the game open early with a 22-0 run in the first quarter.
Jada Lewis led all scorers with 20 points. Lewis scored 13 of her 20 points in the first quarter as McEachern outscored Briarwood Christian 38-6. Chanel Wilson and Victoria Agyin tallied 12 apiece and Que Morrison chipped in 10.
McEachern hit the floor hours later against Argyle Liberty Christian (TX) and came away with a hard fought 65-57 victory to advance to the semifinals. Lyndsey Whilby’s 18 points led McEachern. Chanel Wilson put in 16, Jada Lewis 12 and Tierra Lindsey finished with 10.
“We shot the ball well and we ran them, ” Arthur said. “I just hope we have enough steam for tomorrow.”
In the semifinals on Day 3 the action started at 9am for the Lady Indians as they took on their fourth nationally ranked team of the season in No.13 Blackman (TN). Highly-touted UConn signee Crystal Dangerfield scored 25 points as Blackman held off McEachern 64-62.
Jazz Bond scored 7 of her 11 points in the third quarter as the Lady Blaze erased a three-point halftime deficit. Lewis scored 19, Morrison 15, Wilson 11 and Lindsey 10 in the loss that put the Lady Indians in the third place game against Plano-West, who lost to host and No.6 Duncanville, TX in the semifinals.
“Yes, Blackman is tough,” Arthur stated.
Plano West (TX) used an 18-point fourth quarter to prevail in the low scoring affair with a 47-36 victory. Natalie Chou led Pano West with 15 points while Callie Owens and Morgann Yancey each finished with 10 points. Chou, Owens and Yancey combined to score 12 of the 18 points in the fourth quarter for Plano West. Jada Lewis again led McEachern with 12 points and Que Morrison scored 10 in the loss.
Duncanville defeated Blackman in the finals 64-43 to win the event championship.
McEachern will return to action in a rare home game against Osborne in region action Saturday.
McEachern has losses to nationally ranked Riverdale Baptist (MD), Paul VI (MD) and Blackman (TN) this season. Hopkins (MN) was nationally ranked when they defeated McEachern at that time however despite a current 7-game winning streak are now unranked nationally.
