The meeting of rivals and top two teams in 4A South Carolina could not wait until it’s traditional Friday night. Due to concern of bad weather the schools agreed to move the game to Thursday Night. Top-ranked Spartanburg scored on their opening possession capping a 56-yard drive with an 8-yard Austin Scott to Pops Wilson touchdown pass. Byrnes answered on the ensuing possession. After a pass interference on the Vikings on fourth down, Micah Young scored from a yard out tying the game at 7.
The score remained 7-7 after a second quarter featuring multiple defensive stops and Spartanburg missing a field goal.
Tavien Feaster scored on an 11-yard touchdown run finishing the Vikings second-half opening possession for a 14-7 lead. Byrnes (5-1) failed on a fake punt when punter Thomas Cook was tackled while trying to pass. Spartanburg (6-0) added a 27-yard Will Lawson field goal to lead 17-7 later in the third quarter which stood for the final margin.
Feaster finished with 193 all-purpose yards (127 rush) while Scott finished 12-21 156 yards a touchdown and interception. Wilson and Tavaris Scott each recorded 50 yards receiving.
Micah Young spend most of game getting off the wet field after multiple sacks from the Vikings defensive unit combined for over six sacks in the game. When Young was able to pass he was efficient, finishing 10-15 164 yards no touchdown or interceptions . Chavis Dawkins had 63 yards receiving while young sophomore Quez Mayes rushed for 43 yards- Spartanburg held Byrnes to 32 rushing yards.
