Wheeler And Jonesboro Represent Georgia In National Rankings

The Wheeler Wildcats (16-1), headlined by star recruit Jaylen Brown, remain in the top 3 at No.3 in the latest boys Max Preps Xcellent Top 25. The Wildcats travel to region foe Cherokee (11-7) before a trip to Massachusetts to play in the Spalding HoopHall Classic against Bishop O’Dawd (Oakland, CA) (7-2). Wheeler is averaging 72.3 ppg scoring over 100 points once this season.

Wheeler owns a victory over No.2 Montverde Academy (FL) and are 7-1 in OSS games this season, its only loss coming to West Linn (OR) (8-4)  in the Les Schwab Invitational in Portland, OR. The stiffest test remaining for Wheeler will come in the Georgia playoffs.

The Jonesboro Cardinals (16-1) are ranked 20th and have won 15 straight since suffering its only loss this season to No. 2 ranked Montverde Academy (FL). Jonesboro won the Farm Bureau Classic in Roebuck (Dorman), South Carolina to end the calendar year of 2014. The Cardinals have scored 80 or more points six times, 100 or more points twice this season, are 4-1 in OSS games and have a 21-point win over six-time defending Georgia state champions Miller Grove this season.

Sophomore James “MJ” Walker Jr (16.2ppg), senior Deantre Mack (12.1ppg) and senior Tracey Hector Jr (11.4ppg) lead the Jonesboro attack which is also getting 9.4 points per game from senior point guard Austin Donaldson. Jonesboro has one OSS game remaining against Spain Park (AL) later in January.

Wheeler and Jonesboro will not meet this season as Wheeler is in Georgia’s class 6A where they were the 2014 runner-up and Jonesboro is the defending champions in Georgia’s class 4A, leaving the door open for both to finish nationally ranked at seasons end.
