Majestie Robinson scored 17 points along with Rebecca Lescay’s 16 as Liberty (TX) defeated McEachern 45-43 in the semifinals of the Sandra Meadows Classic in Duncanville, TX. Te’a Cooper scored 29 points, Zieandrea Bridges chipped in 7 while Jada Lewis was held scoreless in the loss. The loss was McEachern’s lowest scoring output since scoring 29 in a loss last season to Marian Catholic (IL), its first loss of the season and snapped a six-game winning streak.
“It was a bad game at the wrong time, McEachern head coach Phyllis Arthur said. “Only scoring 43 points killed us.”
McEachern bounced back to earn third place with an 88-71 victory over Trimble Tech (TX). Te’a Cooper scored 34, a classic high for her, while Jada lewis had 29 in the victory. Karrington Brown scored 33 in the loss for Trimble Tech. Overall the Lady Indians finished 4-1 and third in the 32-team Sandra Meadows Classic.
McEachern defeated Ryan (TX), Hall (AR) and McKinnely North (TX) by an average of 21.3 points to advance to the semifinals. Defensively they were held those opponents to 36.6 points per game while averaging 61 points. In the semifinal and third-place games McEachern average 65.5 points while allowing 58 points. McEachern classic opponents have a combined 47-21 record.
For the classic, McEachern averaged 63 points while allowing 44.6 points. Te’a Cooper lead the team in scoring averaging 28.2 points, Jada Lewis averaged 14. The Indians entered the tournament ranked No.1 by Max Preps and No.6 by USA Today.
Conway (AR) defeated Liberty (TX) 53-33 in the championship game claiming first place.
McEachern (10-1) returns to action Saturday against Osborne for the first of five straight region games. A date with Georgia Class 2A second-ranked Holy Innocents (14-0) in the Krossover Classic at Archer high school follows on January 17th.
