The Jonesboro Cardinals went to South Carolina and came back with the first place trophy after going 3-0 in the Denny’s bracket of the Farm Bureau Insurance Classic at Dorman high school in Roebuck, SC this week. Jonesboro defeated host Dorman 69-47 in the championship game. The defeated Class 4A champs were lead by James Walker Jr’s 27 pts while Tracy Hector Jr scored 11 and Jyair Mincy finished with 10.
Jonesboro (13-1) defeated Keenan (SC) 91-32 and Bartow (FL) 61-59 to advance to the first place game in the Denny’s bracket. Bartow was lead by highly recruited junior Tony Bradley who scored 33 points in the loss.
Deantre Mack- 13 made three-pointers in the tournament, lead all Cardinals in scoring during the tournament with 16.6 points per game followed by Walker with 16.0. mack and Walker both earned spots on the all-tournament team.
Jonesboro will return to action Tuesday January 6th against region opponent Riverdale (3-9).
Other Notes from Farm Bureau Insurance Classic:
Peachtree Ridge (GA) finished second in the Founders Federal Credit Union bracket losing to Byrnes (SC) in the first place game. Sophomore Jay Estime lead the Lions in scoring with 19.0ppg in the tournament.
Douglas County (GA) finished fourth in the Founders Federal Credit Union bracket losing to Shaker Heights (OH) in the third place game.
Central Gwinnett (GA) finished sixth in the Denny’s bracket with a 1-2 record losing to Spartanburg (SC) in the fifth place game
Buford (GA) finished seventh in the Founders Federal Credit Union bracket with a 1-2 record. 50 points from Tre Hansbrough were not enough for the Wolves in a double overtime loss to Byrnes (SC) 106-97 in their first game of the tournament. They defeated Chesnee (SC) in the seventh place game.
Bartow (FL) finished third in the Denny’s bracket after defeating St. Stephens & St. Agnes (VA) in the third place game.
