The North Marion Colts clinched their 15th consecutive playoff berth in thrilling fashion Thursday night at Stan Toole Memorial Stadium.
After a scoreless fourth quarter, Sante Fe and North Marion would go to overtime tied 15-15.
Freddie Swain caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Selier to give the Colts a 22-15 lead. Santa Fe answered back with a touchdown run by defensive stand out Caysuan Wakeley to force a second OT with the score 22-all.
Wakeley scored again on the Raiders possesion in the second overtime, the extra point sailed wide right for a 28-22 Santa Fe lead. Seiler hit Cameron Mackey on nearly the identical play he hit Swain on early to even the score 28-all. Santa Fe blocked the extra point to force a third overtime.
North Marion scored again on a Jake Reed 4-yard touchdown run and the extra point was good for a 35-28 Colts lead. On Santa Fe’s possession, two runs were stopped along with an incomplete pass on third down.North Marion called timeout prior to the fourth down. Instead of talking strategy head coach Stephen Field chest-bumped, hi-fived and smacked his players with emotional support and hype then sent them back on the field for the fourth down. Santa Fe’s pass fell incomplete sealing the victory for North Marion (6-2; 4-1). Santa Fe (5-3;2-3) rushed for over 250 yards.
North Marion wrapped up the home portion of their regular season with a 4-1 mark at the soon-to-be renovated Stan Toole Memorial stadium.
James Allen finished with 170 yards and two touchdowns while Seiler passed for over 225 yard and two touchdowns.
North Marion will close the regular season on the road against Belleview and West Port before opening on the road in the playoffs against Class 5A No.1 South Sumter.
