McEachern Downs Capitol Christian; Sweeps Rose Classic Super Jam

The McEachern (GA) Lady Indians won their ninth consecutive game with a 73-59 victory over Capitol Christian (MD) Saturday in the Rose Classic Super Jam in Brooklyn, NY. The victory came a day after McEachern downed the No.1 team in New York, Nazareth 83-79.

McEachern trailed 28-18 at the half before rallying for the win, outscoring Capitol Christian 55-31 in the second half. Taylor Gordon led the way scoring for the Lady Indians with 22 points adding 5 rebounds and 4 assist. Caliya Robinson followed up her triple-double against Nazareth with a near triple-double as she posted 16 points, 10 rebounds, 8 blocks and 3 assist. Te’a Cooper had 12 points, 4 steals, Jada Lewis 7 points, 3 assist while Aunesha Williams totaled 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals against Capitol Christian.

In the two classic games Taylor Gordon led the Lady Indians in scoring averaging 22 points. Te’a Gordon averaged 19 points and 4.5 steals while Caliya Robinson averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocks. McEachern used its trademark pressure defense and shared the basketball on offense as well as they have this season against top competition in both wins.

“The team that plays together stays together,” McEachern head coach Phyllis Arthur said about her team’s play over the weekend.

The Lady Indians are ranked No.1 in Georgia and improved to 13-2 overall, 4-2 against non-Georgia competition with eight of their remaining nine regular season games against region foes. They are 8-0 against Georgia region 4-6A winning by a margin of 34.87 points-per-game, winning two games by 60-plus points. Their lone remaining out-of-state game will be next Saturday at Wesleyan High School in Norcross, GA when they face the Hoover (AL) Buccaneers.
