The No.1 girls hoops team from Georgia defeated the No.1 ranked girls hoops team from New York in the Rose Classic Super Jam at Nazareth High School in Brooklyn, NY Friday night. McEachern (GA) downed Nazareth (13-4) 83-79 behind a host of big efforts from their key players.
Te’a Cooper led the Lady Indians with 26 points, 6 assists and 5 steals while Taylor Gordon poured in 22 points dropping off 5 assist. The biggest effort of the night came from Caliya Robinson who posted a triple-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 10 blocks adding 4 steals. Aunesha Williams chipped in 8 points and 7 steals while Jada Lewis had 9 points and 7 steals.
McEachern (12-2 overall, 8-0 in Georgia Region 4-6A) improves to 3-2 against out-of-state opponents this season and have yet to lose to a Georgia team. McEachern suffered back-to-back losses to No.3 nationally Blackman (TN) and Marian Catholic (IL) in the Turkey Jam Classic in Tennessee in November. Their previous out-of-state wins came to Jacksonville-Ribault (FL) and Edgewater (FL) in December.
Next up is Captiol Christian (MD) (10-5) Saturday in the final of two games of their New York trip. This is the second consecutive season the Lady Indians, under head coach Phyllis Arthur, have played in the Rose Classic Super Jam. Hoover (AL) is the last out-of-state opponent remaining on the Lady Indian’s schedule. They will face off next Saturday at Wesleyan High School in Norcross, GA.
