The North Marion Colts were tired of losing in the playoffs to Pasco. The Colts had lost their previous three meetings to Pasco, all in the playoffs. That changed Friday night at Stan Toole Memorial Stadium as the Colts defeated Pasco 17-7 advancing to the regional semifinals, snapping the losing streak to Pasco.
Pasco returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown for an early 7-0 lead. Eric Hatcher added a field goal for North Marion to make it 7-3 in the second quarter and the score held until halftime.
In the second half the Colts scored on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Seiler to Shaq Autry and James Allen scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter to give the Colts a 17-7 lead that would hold until the final horn. North Marion’s defense held Pasco under 170 yards of total offense.
North Marion will host district 6 champion South Sumter in the regional semifinals. South Sumter defeated North Marion’s district foe Suwannee 31-12 to advance.
The biggest news in Class 5A was nationally-ranked Godby falling 41-40 to West Florida Tech. Godby was considered the heavy favorite to repeat as class 5A champions. American Heritage, previously regarded as a serious contender, is now considered the heavy favorite. American Heritage cruised by Lely 51-13 and will play Immokalee in the regional semifinals. Immokalee downed Cardinal Gibbons 25-23 to advance and was the Class 5A runner-up in 2012.
