ML King defeated Lakeside-Dekalb (1-6; 1-5) 51-0, posting their fourth shutout of the season and rebounding from their sluggish performance against woeful Dunwoody last week. The Lions improved to 7-0 overall and 6-1 in the region with the win and would later learn they were in the catbird seat in the region for the next six days at least.
ML King special teams dented the scoreboard first quarter when Demarquis Polite-Bray returned a punt for a touchdown and a 7-0 ML King lead through the first frame. Polite-Bray finished the night with two touchdowns.
From there it was all ML King as quarterback Montqavious Johnson passed for three touchdowns on the day hooking up with Donald Clark for 69 yards, Demarquis Polite-Bray for 51 yards and Romello Shoemate for 13 yards. Running backs Spencer Williams and Reynard White had touchdown runs for the Lions who had a commanding 42-0 lead through three quarters. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and the Lion backups added another touchdown and a safety for the final margin.
“We were trying to make a statement , especially after last weeks game”, ML King head coach Rober Freeman said.
Up next for ML King is Stephenson (5-1; 5-1). Stephenson, who was coming off a 13-6 win over region foe and last seasons Georgia Class 4A state champion Tucker (the last Dekalb County, GA team to win a state championship in football), were taking on Miller Grove just a miles away at the same time. In a back and forth battle Miller Grove (6-1; 5-1) outlasted Stephenson 32-29 for their first ever win against the famed Dekalb County, GA powerhouse in their first ever meeting (they previously have been in different classifications). Miller Grove, Stephenson and Tucker (6-1; 5-1) are all in a three-way tie for second place in the region with Miller Grover and Tucker playing next week.
