Kent Onouha’s Punt Return Lifts Camp Lejeune Bulldogs To Win; Other League Scores

The Camp Lejeune Bulldogs continue to stack up the wins and added another one in a defensive battle with a 6-0 win over the Carolina Brigade.

Game Recap From Camp Lejeune Bulldogs Staff:

In a battle for Onslow County minor league football supremacy, the Carolina Brigade travelled across town to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune to take on the Camp Lejeune Bulldogs Saturday night. Both teams are members of the Patriot North Division and Xtreme Conference of the Gridiron Developmental Football League. This was the second meeting between the teams this season, with the Bulldogs winning the first match-up by a score of 38 to 2.

The Bulldogs were led all night with a solid effort from their defense. They were able to contain former Northside High School and East Carolina University standout, Joe Womack all night, recording 9 sacks. Womack was coming off a 5 rushing touchdown performance last week against the 5th ranked Fayetteville Horizon. Linebacker Tristan Wilkerson led the Bulldogs with 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Linebacker Kevin Philo chipped in with 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks of his own. Defensive end Nells Ayler recorded 2.5 sacks as well, as the Bulldogs were busy chasing Womack around all night.

Cornerback Kent Onouha was the MVP of the evening and scored the game’s only touchdown on a 55-yard punt return. He kept the Bulldogs in good field position all night, collecting 145 yards on 4 punt returns.

The Brigade defense was pretty stingy as well, holding the Bulldogs to only 140 yards of total offense. The Bulldog offense was able to put together a couple of drives, but could not turn them into points as they fumbled once inside the 10 and missed a 32 yard field goal.

Camp Lejeune returns to action next week when they travel to Benson, NC to take on the Triangle Nighthawks.
